Thea Smith, M.S., Ed.D., RYTAlthough she had been to a few classes years before, Yoga truly entered Thea’s life in 2009, when she left the corporate world after being diagnosed with breast cancer. A breast cancer survivor of nine surgeries, Thea often attributes her recovery to yoga, saying it has “truly saved her life.” Yoga continues to help daily to manage the PTSD she deals with as a result.
Thea brings a unique scientific viewpoint to the discipline with a B.S. in Physical Education & Biomechanics, an M.S. in Exercise Physiology, and an EdD in Higher Health Care Education. That’s not to mention her PMP certification or degree in Project Management from GWU. Thea is also no stranger to leading a class, having taught Anatomy & Physiology, Kinesiology, and Biomechanics at a half dozen different colleges and universities.
An astrological autodidact for more than 25 years, Thea is a Virgo and will often weave the astrological location of our Sun & Moon and the effects that they have on us humans into her themes and classes. Her worldly vision, open mind, creativity, and undeniable understanding of human anatomy forges Yoga which is stimulating to both mind and body.
“Yoga is the time for you to sort through yourself, the time to keep what is serving you, the time to let go of that which is not. Be it mental, physical or spiritual, Yoga encircles everything. I love yoga because it makes me feel wonderful. Yoga opens my heart so I am more understanding of others and nicer to the world! My goal is to help others benefit from yoga and show them that they can step off the mat feeling refreshed, nourished and balanced.” ~ Thea Smith
